Welcome to the Mzansi Youth Choir Online
The Mzansi Youth Choir was established in July 2003 with the aim of affording talented, underprivileged teenagers and young adults (14-24 years) the opportunity to proficiently perform locally and abroad. The word Mzansi means south in isiZulu and is also the township slang word for South Africa. The choir's repertoire is an exciting assortment of South African music, which incorporates elements of traditional music, pop and jazz. We take pride in performing the music of our beautiful land and wholeheartedly embrace our slogan ‘South Africa’s Choir’. Mzansi’s unique pulsating energy, buoyancy and devotion to South African music is an experience not to be missed. The choir is accompanied by a professional 8 piece band.

The choir consists of 45-55 choristers, is mainly Soweto–based but also have choristers from Johannesburg, Alberton, Vosloorus, Kathlehong and Thokoza. If and when it suits the client, the choir has also a Chamber Choir available, consisting of 16-24 choristers. The Mzansi Youth Choir is registered as an Article 21 Company, and is totally dependent of sponsorships to run the choir, e.g. for transport, salaries, tours, camps, food and clothes.

As the Mzansi Youth Choir continues to take the South African entertainment industry by storm, many consider them to be the most exciting choir to emerge in recent years.
During the recent FIFA Soccer World Cup in South Africa the Mzansi Youth Choir was invited to sing Waka Waka (the official World Cup song) at the FIFA World Cup 2010 Celebration Concert at Orlando Stadium. Here we shared the stage with some of the world's finest artists and sang with Shakira and Freshly Ground. Shakira and her team were so impressed that they invited the choir to join Shakira during the closing ceremony at Soccer City. For the closing ceremony Shakira requested our Musical Director Ralf Schmitt to rearrange Waka-Waka for the closing ceremony. The choir was invited to meet and greet Andrea Bocelli upon his arrival at Lanseria Airport. The choir gave a lively and vibrant performance to Maestro Bocelli and the gathered local and international media. Andrea Bocelli was so impressed with the choir that he insisted that they join him the next evening to open his concert at the Coca Cola Dome in Randburg.

The choir also attended a workshop by the hip-hop artist Typhoon from the Netherlands in Soweto were visited by a Brazilian TV crew during one of our rehearsals in Alberton. Fortunately one of our choristers can speak Portuguese and the crew was very pleased to be able to conduct a Portugese interview. German journalists invited five of our choristers to join them at the fan-park in Soweto for the Germany vs England game. Our choristers were "German Supporters" for the day and celebrated each goal with a song.During this period the choir was invited by MNet to make two advertisements for Nigeria Idols. Our choristers play the leading roles in both advertisements and our Musical Director composed the music for one of the advertisements. The American sports channel ESPN recorded a World Cup promotional jingle with the choir which was broadcasted before every USA game. Jacarandafm interviewed with our conductor regarding our experiences during the World Cup and on 16th July the Mzansi Youth Choir participated in the Sunrise TV programme of ETV to celebrate Madiba's birthday with 6 songs during the programme. The TV programme Glitterati has invited the choir to their programme on 26th July 2010.
